Langford, SD: The memorial service for Blake Matthew Hoines will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026 at Rose Hill Church, of rural Langford. Pastor Mike Honl and Diane Hoines will officiate the service.
Blake Matthew Hoines was born on April 12, 2011 to Derrick Hoines and Nicole (Fox) Hoines. Blake passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at the age of 15.
Blake loved to fish and spend time with his family. Whether it was fishing in the summer or winter, he loved going out with his cousin Elijah, Grandpa Fox and Uncle Daren. Blake and his sister, Abbie were the best of friends and shared many laughs together. From the beginning, Blake was very determined and motivated and wanted to do things as fast as possible and most importantly, to do it by himself. As a family, he enjoyed the game of disc golf and watching videos on how to throw the disc farther than anyone else.
He was a whiz at math from a very young age and loved saving up money. As a toddler, he would often be found down on hands and knees looking under shelving to find loose change. He started his own candy business before starting kindergarten and learned how to count change and determine a profit or loss. In recent years, he kept track of his money and watching his different investment accounts grow, especially after starting working at the local grocery store, where he made many new friends.
He was all boy, whether it was lining up hot wheels by size order to race them on his track, grabbing tools to take off his training wheels and go as fast as his bike could go, looking for snakes on the dirt roads and toads after a spring rain. He was very competitive and that carried over to sports, games such as chess as well as his grades at school. Despite his competitiveness, he was willing to help others out and was known for being kind and smart. He had a tenderness with animals that was surprising for such a rough and tumble boy. He was always showing off how strong he was by picking up things bigger than himself when he was little and in recent years, adding to his weight collection. He loved to spend his spare time gaming with his cousin and friends and was always up for shooting hoops or throwing a football around.
We will miss his infectious laugh and smile. He loved making funny faces as a young child and as he grew it developed into funny selfies and snapshots. He loved surprising people by using big words that most people wouldn’t know how to use in sentences, and sometimes, neither did he but he knew it would make people laugh and smile.
