OMAHA, N.E.(KELO)- The regional economy is showing signs of new life…but there are a few snags for South Dakota.

Creighton University’s monthly survey of bankers in the 10-state region showed a fourth straight month of growth.

Economics professor Ernie Goss says South Dakota’s economy remains strong, but weak exports and problems in food processing removed some of the luster.

Bankers in the survey say the Fed’s campaign of raising interest rates to control inflation is creating some pain for their business.

Regional farmland prices are on the rise.

Creighton University’s Rural Mainstreet Index shows they’ve increased for 34 straight months.

Goss says farmers haven’t pulled back on the throttle on buying more land.

The Rural Mainstreet Index is a monthly survey of bankers in a 10-state region.
