House State Affair Committee defeat SJR502

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The House State Affair Committee on Wednesday heard testimony on SJR502.  The resolution would create a Convention of States to put an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to cap the U.S. Supreme Court at nine justices.

Prime sponsor of the bill is Senator Michael Rohl.  Rohl remind the committee about Democrat’s plan to expand the court and Congressman Dusty Johnson working on a bill to cap that at nine.

Rohl’s concern about how politicize the U.S. Supreme Court can be.

Linda Schauer, Director of the Concerned Women of America’s South Dakota Chapter talks her opposition to the Convention of States

Schauer told the committee even if they pass the resolution.  There is no guarantee that would be the figure at the convention itself.

The committee voted 8-4 to not pass the resolution and instead voted 12-0 to send the bill to the 41st day killing the resolution.
