ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce’s 2nd Legislative Coffee was held on Saturday at the Barnett Center on the campus of Northern State University. Legislators from Districts 1,3, & 23 were all invited. Of the nine representing Brown County. only four appeared. They were from District 1, Senator Michael Rohl, District 3, Senator Carl Perry & Representative Al Novstrup and from District 23, Representative Scott Moore.
The focus of our story will be what’s been happening since the first Legislative Coffee held two weeks ago.
District 1 Senator Michael Rohl:
Senator Rohl updated on bills he’s been working on the last two weeks. One was SB236 dealing with rural infrastructures.
Rohl discussed SB110 dealing with broadband associated with data privacy. Note he said 10 but meant to say 110.
Rohl talks about SB111 which deals with broadband as a utility.
Rohl talked about SB3 which passed the South Dakota House and heads to the Governor’s desk.
District 3 Representative Al Novstrup:
Representative Novstrup is on the Appropriation Committee and he discuss a bill dealing with funding for Rideline.
Novstrup talks about a bill working through the committee to address corrections.
Novstrup also addressed two bills(HB1017 & HB1262) which could benefit the Aberdeen market.
Novstrup also address the bill dealing with sentencing for those convicted of crimes.
District 3 Senator Carl Perry:
Senator Perry is on the leadership team in the Senate. He participates in the weekly press conferences with the media and talks about what’s being asked there.
Perry detail more about the construction of the new Smithfield plant that will be built in the Sioux Falls area.
Perry also discuss the commemoration of longtime Aberdeen School Board member Brad Olson.
The South Dakota Legislature are also doing a commemoration for retired School Board member Duane Alm this year.
Perry also addressed a bill dealing with the funding needed for the airports in Sioux Falls and Rapid City.
District 23 Representative Scott Moore:
Representative Moore preview what to look for next week dealing with SB236.
Moore also addressed his support for the new Secretary of Corrections, Nick Lamb.
Moore is also on the Appropriation Committee. He talks about the committees are looking at bills right now that they are looking to approve funding for.
Moore address the importance of teamwork within the legislature.
Moore made it official on Saturday that he will not seek re-election for his House seat in District 23.
