Kent Everett Edson, age 83, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, passed away August 1, 2025.

He was born on July 22, 1942, to Earl and Fern (Johnson) Edson in Akron, Iowa. Kent was raised on a farm near Alcester, South Dakota, and attended rural school at Prospect Hill. He graduated from Alcester High School in 1960 and went on to earn a degree in accounting from the University of South Dakota in 1964.

On January 26, 1963, Kent married Susan St. Pierre in Alcester.

After college, Kent began his career in Minneapolis, Minnesota, working as a CPA for the accounting firm Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG). In 1971, he and his family moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he served as Controller — and later as Chief Financial Officer — for Dacotah Banks, Inc., retiring in January 2009.

Kent was a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan and a proud season ticket holder since the Metrodome opened in 1982. He enjoyed playing tennis and softball, and was an active member of the Aberdeen Clay Bird League. He was also a life member of the Aberdeen Sertoma Club. Most of all, Kent loved time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s events.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan of Aberdeen; his son, David (Bobbi) Edson of Queen Creek, AZ; and daughters, Kim Edson (Angie Joyce) of Rochester, MN, and Kristen Edson (Jim Bregi) of Roseville, MN. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Isaac Edson, Andrew Edson, Eddie (Megan) Bregi, and Sadie Bregi; and his siblings: Winston Edson of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Kathy (Bob) Wilson of Sugar Land, TX.

We are deeply grateful to the compassionate staff at Bethesda Home and Avera Home Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Kent during his final month.
