Millie Lockington, 95

The Funeral Mass for Millie Gerber Lockington, 95, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 11:00am, Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Andrew Dickinson, Celebrant. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Millie died Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 4:00-5:00pm, Tuesday, followed by a Liturgical Wake Service at 5:00-6:00pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street. Visitation will continue until 7:00pm. Masks will be required at all of the services.

Millie was born July 24, 1926, to John and Bethel (Palm) Sundstrom at rural Grenville, SD. She attended rural school and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1945. She then attended Northern State Teachers College. Millie taught school for many years and worked for 3M for almost fifteen years. She enjoyed volunteering and working with boy scouts, at hospitals, churches and with many elderly friends. Her involvement was in Iowa, New York, Wisconsin, Colorado and South Dakota. Millie enjoyed belonging to Red Hats, Eagles, Moose Lodge, VFW, Aberdeen Senior Center, St. Luke’s Auxiliary, North Eastern Singles, Sacred Heart Band 11, Birthday Club, Catholic Daughters, Sodac Club, and the NSU 50 Year Club.

In 1948, Millie married Thomas Gerber in Aberdeen. In 1989 she married Colonel Bob Lockington in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They lived in Colorado Springs, CO, until moving to Aberdeen in July of 1995.

Grateful for having shared Millie’s life are her six children: Mary Lee in Washington, Mark in California, Todd in New York, Pauline in Illinois, Eric in South Dakota, and Henry in New Hampshire. She has eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was very loved by them. Her vibrant spirit will be missed.

Her husbands, parents, three brothers and one daughter predeceased her in death.
