DICKINSON, ND (PlayNorthStar.com) – The North Star Athletic Association announced its postseason baseball awards Wednesday evening at the Buck Auditorium in Kleinfelter Hall on the campus of Dickinson State (N.D.).  The NSAA Baseball All-Conference teams, postseason awards and Gold Glove team were voted on by the league’s coaches.  The Champions of Character recipients were also announced.

The NSAA Baseball First-Team consists of 17 recipients, while the Second-Team consists of 16 recipients each.  Bellevue (Neb.) landed a total of 11 selections to the All-Conference teams, with eight athletes being named to First Team and three athletes on the Second Team.

Ryan Muizelaar of Jamestown (N.D.) was selected as the North Star Athletic Association Baseball Player-of-the-Year.  Nicholai Arbach of Dakota State (S.D.) was named as the Pitcher-of-the-Year.  Ayden Makarus of Bellevue was chosen as the league’s Newcomer-of-the-Year.  Alexis Velasco of Valley City State (N.D.) was named as the Freshman-of-the-Year.

BU’s Duane Monlux was selected as the NSAA Baseball Coach-of-the-Year after leading his team to their sixth consecutive straight conference regular-season title.  A new coaching award was added this year, an Assistant Coach of the Year award.  That award goes to Shawn Malley of Bellevue.

Each team has one honorable mention recipient to the NSAA Baseball All-Conference list.

The North Star Athletic Association Baseball Postseason tournament, with eight total teams in the tournament with two teams from the Cal Pac Conference, gets underway Thursday at 10 a.m. (Central Time)/9 a.m. (Mountain Time) between VCSU and BU.

Dakota State face Cal Pac regular-season title Simpson (Calif.) at 1 p.m. (CT)/12 p.m. (Mountain Time), followed by Jamestown taking on Mayville State (N.D.) at 5 p.m. (CT)/4 p.m. (MT).  Host-team Dickinson State plays La Sierra (Calif.) in the night cap at 8 p.m. (CT)/7 p.m. (MT).

The double elimination tournament runs through Sunday with the championship game, with an if necessary game on Monday morning.  The tournament champion receives the second automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round (unless if the regular-season champion wins postseason tournament, the runner-up will earn the second automatic bid).
