PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Capitol Complex Beautification and Restoration Commission heard an update this month on plans for a full renovation of the State Capitol Building.  Deputy State Engineer Christine Day says they would like to take some funds to study what rehabilitating the buildings infrastructure would require.

Day says that scope would be a deep dive in to the health of the systems of the Capitol.

The study would also look at the use of space in the Capitol.

A 2023 study of the Capitol’s utility infrastructure found most of the plumbing to be original, made from cast iron or galvanized steel and is in need of replacement and fails to meet current building codes.
