ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release)- On Thursday, Nicole Schutter, successfully filed her nominating petition for her name to appear on the June election ballot to represent the Southwest District for the city of Aberdeen.

I am a resident of Aberdeen for almost fifteen years, values the experiences and support me and my family had in the community, sharing, “The Aberdeen community has given so much to my family and me.  It’s been an incredible place for Jeremy and I to raise our children, build lasting relationships, serve others, and grow professionally, I am deeply grateful for these opportunites, and I want to give back by helping shape a future that ensures every individual, family, and business can thrive for generations to come.”

I would like to to focus on the following areas:

-Supporting every generation to retain our youth and families while ensuring all residents are cared for, safe, and have access to affordable housing, recreational activities, and essential resources.

-Infrastructure development and sustainability that promote growth, both residential and business/industry-based, within the community ensuring residents gain and maintain access to necessary resources.

-Workforce development to support growning and sustaining our business and industry needs in the area while providing quality, skilled workforce in key areas such as childcare, health care, and law enforcement.

-Fiscal responsibility and transparency ensuring city spending aligns with community needs.

I along with my husband, Jeremy, and our two daughters, moved to Aberdeen in 2010.  Within that time, I worked within the Aberdeen School District, first as a teacher, then as the principal of Mike Miller Elementary School.  Since 2022, I have served as an Assistant Professor of Education and the Teacher Education Department Chair in the Millicent Atkins School of Education at Northern State University.

I enjoy spending my time serving others through participation on various community boards and committees and in church activities, walking and riding bike, and reading.
