South Dakota House passes HB1085

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota House debated HB1085 on the floor Tuesday.  The bill establish a moratorium on the construction of carbon dioxide pipelines in this state.  An amendment was made to remove the emergency clause off the title so now a simple majority is needed to pass.

Prime sponsor was Representative Richard Vasgaard of Centerville.

Vasgaard provide an update on PHMSA(Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration) study released back in January.

Opposing the bill on the floor was Representative Mike Weisgram of Fort Pierre.

Also opposing was Representative Kent Roe of Hayti who has experience working with carbon dioxide.

The bill passed out of the House on a 40-30 vote and now moves on to the Senate.
