Milliscent Mae (Kibbel) Harris, 90, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away peacefully at Bethesda Nursing home on Wednesday, February 19, 2024. Memorial service will be 10:30am., Wednesday, February 26, 2024, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, SD. Lunch to follow in the fellowship hall. Burial following at Riverside Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed.
Visitation will be 6:00-7:00pm, Tuesday, followed by a prayer service at 7:00pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.
Millie was born on September 17th, 1934, to Howard and Bertha Kibbel in Mott, ND. She had 4 brothers and 4 sisters. She grew up on a farm near Mott ND and graduated from Mott High School. After High school she moved to Rapid City, SD and attended the National College of Business.
It was in Rapid City that she met a young Korean War Veteran, Evan Harris, on a blind date. They were married on November 14, 1954 in Rapid City and moved to Aberdeen in 1977. They had 4 children Kathy, Kevin, Barb, and Bruce.
Millie was a stay-at-home mom when the kids were younger. She then worked in the West Junior High cafeteria and then as a receptionist in an ophthalmology clinic. When they moved to Aberdeen, she helped manage and kept the books for their business Harris Masonry. She came out of retirement and found her perfect job as receptionist at Plains Commerce Bank. She had a gift to remember names and loved greeting the customers and calling them by name. She enjoyed participating in bank activities, bringing baked goods to work and keeping the break room clean. She retired from there at the age of 80.
Millie was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. She enjoyed memberships and activities with the Aberdeen Women of the Moose, Sons of Norway, and LaSertoma. She loved sharing German and Norwegian foods and passing down recipes and traditions. Millie and Evan also enjoyed playing cards and attending bridge and whist club activities. Millie loved crossword puzzles, traveling, and always looked forward to family vacations.
She is survived by her 4 children: Kathy Harris (Aberdeen), Kevin (Abiba) Harris (Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Africa/Rapid City, SD), Barb (Dave) Crawford (Aberdeen), and Bruce Harris (Portland, OR). Grandchildren: Amy (Jarrett) Rix, Kayla (Tyler) Herman, Kyle (Dawn Melikant) Crawford, Austin Harris, Peyton Harris, Parker Harris, Sam (Devon) Harris and Andy Harris, Josie (Jesus) Raymundo and Michelle Marcucci. One sister, Priscilla Linghor and one sister-in-law, Karen Kibbel. She had 14 great-
grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Evan; her parents, Bertha and Howard Kibbel; 4 brothers, Alvin, Dale, Miles, and Edwin; three sisters, Marilyn Iverson, Darlene, and Serena; two brothers-in-law, Roger Iverson and Tim Linghor, one grandchild, Cassandra Neilan; and one great-grandchild, Jorgan Eagle Star.
