ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota Board of Education Standards held the first of four meeting Monday in Aberdeen. The committee received a report from Shannon Malone, Director of Learning & Instruction for the South Dakota Department of Education of recommendations on English Language Arts, Computer Science, & Oceti Sakowein Essential Understandings & Essentials.
Malone offered their recommendations for English.
There was no opposition testimony against that.
Malone talks about computer science curriculum.
One big issue Malone discussed was the future of AI(Artifical Intelligence) in everyday lives.

There was opposition to these standard from the nine tribes that make up South Dakota. Sisseton/Oyate Tribal Education Director, Dr. Sherry Johnson:
Johnson also express concerns about the various languages tribes used not being more emphasized.
South Dakota Secretary of Education, Joe Graves delivered a rebuttal.
The committee are also scheduled to meet in Sioux Falls on November 16th, Pierre on February 10th, 2025, & Rapid City on April 14th, 2025.
