SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- The southern border crisis is fueling drug and human trafficking in the U-S.

Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead says the open border with Mexico has created another profit center for the cartels.

Those cartels are the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco Cartel.

Milstead says the migrants who enter the country illegally pay the cartels ten to 12-thousand dollars to cross the border.

And, he says, the Cartels’ work is wreaking havoc in South Dakota with their drug trade.

The Sinaloa and Jalisco Cartels operate in more than 40 nations worldwide, controlling the meth and fentanyl drug trade.
