Phyllis Lassanske, 86

The funeral service for Phyllis Lassanske, 86, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:00am, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, with Pastor Chad Schopp officiating. Burial will be 1:30pm at Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, SD. Phyllis died Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 4:00pm to 7:00pm, Tuesday, April 7, followed by a prayer service at 7:00pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.

Phyllis Joann Lehrkamp was born April 18, 1939, to Walter and Bertha (Stanley) Lehrkamp in Lebanon, SD. She grew up on the family farm with her brothers. Phyllis graduated from Gettysburg High School and then went to school in Omaha, NE, to be a stewardess.

On June 6, 1959, Phyllis was united in marriage to Leon Lassanske in Lebanon. They lived in Elbow Lake, MN, for a short time where Leon worked on a farm. They then moved to Aberdeen in September of 1961. In 1974, they moved to Akaska, SD, where they bought a bait shop and the Sportsman Bar and Grill. Leon and Phyllis later bought the grocery store there. In 1976, they opened the Hoven Café. In 1980, they sold their businesses and moved to Selby, SD. Phyllis worked for several years as a CNA at the nursing home in Selby and eventually earned her degree in dietary management. Phyllis was the Dietary Manager at the nursing home for the remainder of her career, retiring at 72.

Phyllis and Leon moved to Aberdeen in 2014. Phyllis volunteered as a foster grandparent at the Mike Miller Elementary School. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church where she was active in the “Mat Ladies Group.”

Phyllis enjoyed baking, crocheting, quilting, and doing cross stitch. She was an avid reader and researched family history. She also loved watching Westerns and the Inspirational channel. Phyllis loved her family and always put them first.

Grateful for having shared Phyllis’ life are her children: Karen Bremmon (JR Jensen), Pierpont, SD, Sheryl (Rodney) Stroh, Selby, SD, Susan (James) Hook, Aberdeen, SD, Thomas (Stephanie) Lassanske, Brownsboro, TX, Kathie Lassanske, Aberdeen, SD, and Dawn (Jason) Peterson; grandchildren: Shaun Erickson, Chad (Brittany) Erickson, Tiffany Erickson, Justin (Michelle) Randall, Xana Stroh, Valerie Stroh, Rea Stroh, Jeremiah (Kristen) Hook, Kayla (Casey) Zoellner, Nicole (Zach) Wanttie, Audrey Lassanske, William Lassanske, Felix Lassanske, Aaryah Lassanske, Carson Peterson, Madison (Rhiannon) Peterson and Gavin Peterson; great-grandchildren: Ryder Erickson, Cali Beth, Dani Jo, and Gemi Erickson, Kingsley, Kindrick and Kamdin Call, Chantrea and Sunny Hem, Tristan and Landon Miller, Olivia, Jeremiah, Jr., and Roman Hook, Emmett and Griffin Zoellner, Finnegan Wanttie, Giovanni Lobacz, Liam Peterson; and great great-grandson Elias Lopez.

Preceding Phyllis in death are her husband Leon Lassanske; parents: Walter and Bertha Lehrkamp; her siblings: Walter Lehrkamp, Jr., Robert ‘Bob’ Lehrkamp, William ‘Bill’ Lehrkamp, and James ‘Jim’ Lehrkamp, and an infant great-grandson.
