ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Congressman Dusty Johnson was in Aberdeen Monday hosting a roundtable discussion on how to start doing business from the ground up. Joining him on the panel was Aberdeen Councilman Rich Ward with the Aberdeen Development Corporation, Cam Schock with Climate Control, & Bea Smith, Director of the NSU Innovation and Startup Center.
Congressman Johnson last week introduced Launch South Dakota. An initiative with the emphasis of helping people in South Dakota get their businesses started within the state..
Johnson talks about where South Dakota is ranked today in terms of starting businesses in the state.
Johnson focused on four goals with Launch South Dakota. Two of the goals deal with getting people to invest in mentoring those who wish to get their businesses started. The other goals is to expand proof of concep awards.
Johnson other two goals deal with better promoting Giant Visions Competition and to address federal funding toward startups.
Councilman Rich Ward addressed helping those getting started to work with banking within the community.
Business owner Cam Schock talks about trying to offer assistance to those who wants to get started.
Director Bea Smith talks about how the NSU Startup and Innovation Center help.
Smith has the Big Pitch competition coming up in June. They work with the SBDC(Small Business Development Center). Regional Director Kelly Weaver discuss what they do for them.
SBDC does the Big Idea competition held each December at NSU.
Congressman Johnson takes three things from the meeting today, he will take going forward.
If elected Governor, Congressman Johnson plans to take two million dollars from the future fund for Launch South Dakota.
