ABERDEEN, S,D.(HubCityRadio)- The main run of the 101st South Dakota Legislative session is over. District 1 Senator Michael Rohl took the time to reflect on the session.
Senator Rohl talked about leadership within the Republican party of the South Dakota Senate.
Rohl talked about the role of the Lt. Governor and how some legislators dictacted what he could and couldn’t do.
Rohl prime several bills this session. A number of them have already been signed by the Governor. One of the them dealt with RAIF funds and Brown County Highway Superintendent Dirk Rogers had some concerns about.
Another bill he ended priming was HB1262 which dealt with school based therapeutic center for Brown County. Rohl talked about how he got involved with that.
Rohl talks about his support for SB245 which dealt with funding from the state sales tax when it goes to 4.5% in July of 2027 toward property tax relief.
Senator Rohl will be on the committee dealing with SB121 that deals with the Richmond Dam project. He goes over why the funding from the legislature will be needed for the project.
One highlight of the session took place on Crossover Day when Senator John Carley was a no show which prevented any possibility of a 17-17 that Lt. Governor Tony Venhuizen could possibly break. Senator Rohl was in the center of some of the controversy. He started by talking about what happened the day before.
On Crossover Day, he did the Call to the Senate. Rohl went over the procedures to be decided on after about an hour came by.
Rohl was later got called by the Senate Majority Leader Jim Mehlhaff.
Veto Day is on March 30th.
