South Dakota Legislature approves budget for remainder of this year and for FY2027

PIERRE, S.D,(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota Legislature debated two budget bills on Thursday.  SB78 is for the budget for the remainder of FY2026 & HB1326 for the budget for FY2027.

SB78:

Representative Al Novstrup discuss how much additional funding was needed for education the remainder of this fiscal year ending June 30th.

Novstrup also broke down funding needed elsewhere.

That bill passed the South Dakota Senate on a 26-8 vote and the House on a 52-15.

HB1326:

The budget for FY2027 is estimated to be around 7.5 billion dollars.  Senator Mark Lapka of Ipswich broke down how the funding is done.

Representative Al Novstrup along with Senator Mark Lapka are Vice Chairs of their respective Appropriation Committees.  Novstrup talks about his support of the budget.

Representative Brandei Schaefbauer spoke out against the bill because of the amount of spending going into the bill.

Representative Logan Manhart of Aberdeen explain his opposition to the budget.

The South Dakota House passed the budget on a 50-17 vote and the Senate passed it on a 26-8 vote.

Both bills now head to the Governor’s desk for his signature.
