South Dakota House passed HB1262

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota House of Representative talked about HB1262. The bill make an appropriation for the construction of a non-residential, school-based, therapeutic services facility in Brown County and to declare an emergency.

Representative Lana Greefield of Doland spoke about the bill on the floor of the House.

Greenfield talks about testimony in committee hearings from school superintendents in the region.

Greenfield also told the floor that the city is Aberdeen is ready for this.

Representative Al Novstrup of Aberdeen talked about HB1017 that works in conjunction with this bill.

Novstrup talks about Children’s Home Society which will set up operations in the city of Aberdeen.

Representative Liz May of Kyle is a supporter of the bill but wants to understand how do you define violent.

May believes this is something the legislature needs to address in the future.

Representative Greenfield responded by trying to find a definition of violent.

Greenfield acknowledge that they do need to do a better job of diagnosing violent.

The South Dakota House passed the bill on a 61-5 vote and it moves on to the South Dakota Senate.
