PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Wednesday, the South Dakota House State Affairs Committee heard testimony on SJR501. The resolution would put on the ballot a cap of sixteen consecutive years in the South Dakota Legislature.
Prime sponsor of the resolution is Senator Michael Rohl of Aberdeen.
Rohl talks about what voters in North Dakota & Missouri have done to their legislators.
Rohl is not in favor of lifetime term limts.
Aberdeen resident Angie Cleberg spoke in favor of this resolution to the committee.
Representative Al Novstrup of Aberdeen spoke against this. He believes this is a solution searching for a problem.
Novstrup weigh in on the importance of experience in the legislature.
Representative Brandei Schaefbauer of Aberdeen is on this committee and she talks about why she was opposed to this.
The committee voted 9-3 to send the bill to the 41st day effectively killing the resolution.
