South Dakota Senate defeat SB199

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota Senate on Monday debated SB199.  The bill establish a new fund to provide property tax relief.

Prime sponsor of the bill was Senator Mark Lapka of Leola.

Lapka points out that this bill would impact all property taxes and not just owner-occupied properties.

Senator Randy Deibert of Rapid City opposed the bill due to the two/thirds needed to pass it as it goes through appropriations.

Senator Amber Hulse of Hot Springs was on the Senate Taxation Committee and opposed it there.  She told the body about her concern with the 25% figure.

Original sponsor of the bill was Senator Chris Carr of Sioux Falls.  He talks about his support of the bill.

The South Dakota Senate voted 17-16 against the bill.
