PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota Senate Local Government Committee heard testimony on SB236 on Wednesday. The bill create the county and township infrastructure fund for the accounting, safekeeping, and allocation of unobligated rural access infrastructure fund moneys.
District 1 Senator Michael Rohl was the prime sponsor of the bill.
Michael Lindgrum, lobbyist for the South Dakota Association of Towns and Townships went into detail on the bill. He went into detail on the RAIF funds that are used by counties.
Lindgrum explains what the bill does.
Kim Jacobson is the Executive Director of the South Dakota Association of County Commissioners. She talks about the role of the counties.
Only opposition was Lincoln County landowner Tony Ventura who felt the money should go more toward townships and not the counties.
Lindgrum responded to that.
The committee passed the bill on a 7-0 vote and placed it on consent to be heard later this week.
