Focus of Democrat Town Hall on Saturday on agriculture

BRITTON, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota Democrats hosted a town hall on Saturday in Britton with the main focus on agriculture.  Guest speakers included Doug Sombke, President of the South Dakota Farmers Union, organic farmer Charlie Johnson, and Dr. Franne Sippel, psychologist with Northern Plains Psychological.

Sombke discuss the issue of suicide and mental health issues with regards to farmers.

Sombke told the audience some of the issues in Pierre that’s the Farmers Union are looking at.

Johnson is an organic farmer from Lake County who talks about the importance of family farming.

Johnson talks about agriculture in this time frame.

Johnson discuss his organic industry in South Dakota compared to elsewhere in the region.

Johnson talks how industrial farming has impact the family farms.

Sippel talks about her respect for the farming industry.

Sippel discuss the rate of suicide among farmers compared to other industries.

Sippel emphasize the issue of mental health and how farmers are stubborn to ask for help.

Sippel talks about issues farmers are facing that can lead to depression.
