PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota Senate State Affairs Committee on Friday heard testimony on SJR502. The resolution would call for a Convention of States to put in the U.S. Constitution that the maximum that can be on the U.S. Supreme Court is nine justices.
Prime sponsor of the resolution is District 1 Senator Michael Rohl.
Senator Rohl feels this is the right time to put it in because of concern the U.S. Senate may one day eliminate the filibuster.
Opposing the bill was Linda Schauer with Concerned Women in America who feels this process should begin in Congress itself.
Rohl feels this is in support of Congressman Dusty Johnson who has trying to work on this in Washington for years.
The committee passed the resolution on a 8-1 vote and now will head to the South Dakota Senate floor.
