Georgina ‘Gina’ Lee Jung was born April 23, 1965, in Graceville, MN, to James and Norma (Harker) Jung. She grew up with five sisters in the family home on Lake Traverse, where she enjoyed the outdoors, especially swimming and hanging out with her friends and sisters. Gina loved to sing and sang in the church choir in Browns Valley her entire childhood. She worked at the Browns Valley health care center during her high school years. After graduating high school in 1983, she attended NDSU for one year, then finished at Lake Area Votech as an LPN.
Gina’s career was always centered towards helping people. She was always concerned about others more than herself. This care for others was reflected in how she cared for the elderly at Bethesda Town Square of Aberdeen, and in her occupation at Avera Home Medical Supplies, providing medical supplies for those in need. She even volunteered to take care of people during the covid epidemic. Gina also worked at Mersco, was manager of the M Station at Mina Lake, and was proud co-owner of Anchors of Faith with Karen Opp.
Gina married Jeff Thorne on March 15, 1986, in Aberdeen, SD. They had two children, Shawn and Jordan. Her life was always centered around God and family. Gina was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Ipswich Catholic Church. She was full of joy and had a great sense of humor.
Gina was a member of the Aqua Addicts ski club, Drift Busters snowmobile club and a Woman of the Moose. Gina loved fireworks, camping, and spending time outdoors. Since she was a little girl, she was always caring for animals such as mice, ducks, rabbits, and her dog Tawny. She had numerous dogs and litters of puppies throughout her life and even fostered puppies for the humane society. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the island of Kauai, HI. They took many trips with friends and family. A few years ago, Gina bought a house in Florida. It was her dream to retire to some place warm with beaches and share it with her family and friends. When her sister Laura was sick, Gina wrote a prayer for her which became part of the “Jung Dinner Prayer.” During the summer, Gina loved her time at Mina Lake, where she and Jeff lived for 36 years.
