SCR 601 lost by a single vote

PIERRE, S.D.(SDBA)- A Senate resolution calling for limited government involvement in economic development failed Thursday on a one-vote margin.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 601 urged state leaders to avoid subsidies and incentives and instead let the free market drive growth.

Sponsor Senator John Carley, a Republican from Piedmont,  said government intervention often replaces consumer demand.

The resolution failed 17 to 16. Carley entered notice of reconsideration, meaning it could return for another vote later in the session.
