Wilmer Jacob Bohlander passed away on January 11, 2026 at age 96, in Bismarck, ND at Sanford Hospital.
Services will be held on Friday, January 16 at First Baptist Church, 1500 East Melgaard Road, Aberdeen, SD. Visitation will be held at church at 1:00, with a service following at 2:00. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. Refreshments will be served following the burial.
Wilmer was born on July 14, 1929 on the family farm near Herried, SD. He was the oldest son and grew up learning to work hard and be creative with machinery.
Katie Delzer lived on a farm nearby. Katie and Wilmer began dating, with Wilmer often walking across the prairie to visit Katie, even on cold, dark winter evenings.
Wilmer and Katie were married on November 11, 1951 in Herried, SD. They had 2 sons. They moved to Aberdeen in the early 1960s, where Wilmer had a long career as a mechanic until his retirement from Artz Equipment. He continued to help out even after retirement, and worked some part time jobs also to keep busy.
They moved to Bismarck, ND in March of 2025 to be closer to family, and enjoyed many happy visits from children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and little dog Buster.
Wilmer is survived by his wife of 74 years, Katie, one son and his wife, Craig and Michelle Bohlander of Sterling, ND, their children Kaitlin and husband Samuel Bohlander-Green, Chase and wife Katlyn Bohlander and son Carter, Brandon and Heidi Bohlander and their children Vahn and Odin, Leesa and husband Daniel Eckroth and children Aaron, Skyler, and Tanner VanDorsten and Bridger, Casey, and Alyssa Eckroth, Wilmer’s brother Vern Bohlander, and sister Lanette Morgan.
Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mary Bohlander, his infant son Douglas, his grandson Drew Bohlander, brothers Clarence, Edward, Lester, and sisters Virginia and Arlene.
