Lovern was born about 10 miles from Buffalo, TX, on June 8, 1940, to Roy and Bessie (Baker) Owen. The lastborn of 9 children in a heavily wooded area with lots of tall pine trees. This is where she got her love for trees, which she cherished all her life.
She had 4 sisters and 4 brothers. She always commented on all the company they had. Their door was always open. She went to a country school and graduated from Buffalo High.
Shortly after graduation in 1958, she married Lenard Frericks and came to live in South Dakota on a farm where they raised their children, 2 boys and 1 girl. She helped Lenard with chores on the farm, and her greatest love was her children, watching them play sports and whatever. She had a great love for flowers and always had a pretty yard. She loved her grand and great-grandchildren, coming and going to their school sports and school activities were things she enjoyed.
She loved to travel and saw many areas of the U.S.A., as well as going to other foreign countries several times, along with many cruises.
After Lenard’s death in 2004, she married Wayne Milligan from Texas. They continued to travel and were married for 16 years when he passed in 2022. Also preceding her in death were 4 brothers: J.W. “Dutch,” Howard, Harold “Man,” and Cloyd; and 2 sisters: Lucille and Mildred.
She is survived by her children: Ira (Sheree) Frericks of Sioux Falls, SD, Ronnie (Lisa) Frericks of Northville, SD, and Tana (Jim) Westby of Aberdeen, SD; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Eunice Richards of Dallas, TX and Geneva Cantu of Seagoville, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
