Top Ten Stories of 2025(#10-6)

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Time now to look back on 2025 and the top ten stories associated with the city of Aberdeen.  This story will deal with #10-6.

#10 Alexa Sheldon steps down as Executive Director of the Aberdeen Downtown Association:

Back in October, Alexa Sheldon announced she will not be renewing her contract as the Executive Director of the Aberdeen Downtown Association.

Sheldon talked about why now is the right time to step down.

In November, the ADA announced Sabrina Metz as the next Executive Director of the ADA.  She talks about what she wants to do as Executive Director.

Sheldon stepped down in December.

#9 Dr. Alan LaFave named new President at Northern State University:

In April, Northern State announced by Dr. Neal Schnoor would become the new President at Nebraka-Kearney.  The Board of Regents appointed Dr. Laurie Nichols as the interim President.  In her time Nichols reflected on her time as President.

In November, the South Dakota Board of Regents chose VCSU’s President Dr. Alan LaFave as the next president of NSU.

LaFave discuss his goals for NSU.

LaFave will officially begin as President on January 5th.

#8 Robin Bobzien’s retirement:

In December Aberdeen City Manager Robin Bobzien officially retired from the City of Aberdeen.  He had served at the Public Works Director.

Bobzien reflect back on his career.

In October, the Aberdeen City Council voted for Aberdeen Police Chief Dave McNeil the next Aberdeen City Manager.

McNeil reacted to the appointment.

McNeil talks about what he hope to do as City Manager.

McNeil took over as City Manager in December.

#7 Citizens express concerns about Demkota Beef:

During one of fall’s Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Connetions Series in November, one of the guest speakers was the Vice President of Human Relations at Demkota Beef, Mark Stammer.  He was providing an update on what’s happening at the plant.  Members of the audience expressed their concerns about the smell that came from the plant by the rendering process.

Stammer responded to those concerns.

Stammer told the citizens that the expectations of never having it again is not likely but do commit to try to do better.

#6 Representative Brandei Schaefbauer’s bill(HB1259):

In February District 3 Representative Brandei Schaefbauer introduced a bill to ban men from using women restroom.  The bill was introduced after Representative Phil Jensen’s bill to ban the Huron School District from receiving state funds due to this reason.

Representative Schaefbauer:

The South Dakota Legislature passed the bill on votes of 58-9 in the House and 27-6 in the Senate.  The Governor would sign the bill on March 20th saying “”freedom from the ‘woke’ agenda like what has happened in too many other places.”
