Jerome Pfeiffer, 88

The funeral service for Jerome Edward Pfeiffer, 88, of Aberdeen, SD, will be at 11:00am, Monday, December 22, 2025 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Matt Spoden officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Jerome died Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Avera St Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

 

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

 

Jerome Edward Pfeiffer was born in Eureka, SD, on December 20, 1936, to Edward & Frieda (Joachim) Pfeiffer. He grew up on the farm near there and attended school in Eureka, graduating from Eureka High School in 1954.

 

After graduation, Jerome enlisted in the Navy and served from 1954 to 1957. In 1962, he re-enlisted in the Navy and served another two years.

 

After returning to civilian life, he worked as a meat cutter for Kessler’s grocery store in Aberdeen, SD. After working there for 42 years, he retired in 2007.

 

Jerome married Joyce Kary on November 7, 1965, celebrating 60 years together in 2025. They were blessed with two daughters: Dawn (Brad) Pepin and Kari Pfeiffer. They were also blessed with two grandchildren: Allison Pepin and Wyatt Pepin.

 

He is also survived by his sister Arley Trautman, stepsisters Dianna Quaschnick and Mavis Knoepfle, stepbrother Merle (Betty) Kost, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding Jerome in death are his parents Edward & Frieda Pfeiffer; stepfather Ted Kost; sister Della Kary; and brothers-in-law Gordon Quaschnick, Leslie Knoepfle, Ben Trautman, and LeRoy Kary.
