Recap of Governor Rhoden’s Budget Address

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Tuesday, Governor Larry Rhoden delivered the 2025 Budget Address to the South Dakota Legislature.  The first budget address he delivered since being Governor back in February.

Governor Rhoden discuss the principles he followed in delivering his budget.

Rhoden provided an update on the South Dakota economy.

Rhoden acknowledge the income in the state is higher than most believes.

Rhoden challenged legislators to find cuts to various programs.

Rhoden discuss that this year the Big 3(education, health care, and state employees) will not see an increase.

Rhoden discuss projections for revenue available for 2026.

Rhoden discuss what GRIT(Governor’s Resilience and Infrastructure Task Force) has requested some of the money can be used for.

Rhoden talked about funding needed for programs like SNAP and public broadcasting.

Rhoden also address the settlement addressing the issue of opiods.

Rhoden also told the legislature about $14 million that they can use.

The first day of the South Dakota Legislature is Tuesday, January 13th.  That when Governor Rhoden will deliver his first State of the State Address.
