Wolves Wrap Up Three Day Trip in Twin Cities In Pool

ST. PAUL, MN (NSUWolves.com) [Day 1] – Northern State sits in fourth place after the first day of the Wildbear Invite. NSU’s Mazie Finch was involved with both of the team’s second-place finishes in the finals this evening.

PRELIMS

  • In the 200-yard individual medley, freshman Ella Wanschura took fourth with a time of 2:17.72, while Marie Loest (2:22.06), Riley Vraniak (2:24.94) and Emma Beavers (2:26.54) followed in 10th, 15th and 17th, respectively
  • Sydney Rogers led the Wolves in the 200-yard backstroke, securing a 2:17.49 finish for seventh
  • Finch (10th) followed with a time of 2:22.53, and Lorelai Grund (11th) finished at 2:26.54
  • Northern State boasted seven qualifying times in the 50-yard freestyle, with Finch placing seventh at 25.39 seconds, NSU’s fastest time in the event
  • Two spots behind Finch was Rogers at 25.56 seconds for ninth, and Emma Moore notched an 11th-place finish at 25.59 seconds
  • Laila Gordillo (26.39 seconds) and Maya Hentges (26.49 seconds) finished back-to-back for 18th and 19th place, with Sidney Masgras (26.70 seconds) and Grund (26.73 seconds) doing the same for 21st and 22nd
  • The Wolves featured three top-10 swimmers in the 100-yard butterfly: Moore (seventh) at 1:02.96, Gordillo (eighth) at 1:04.33 and Masgras (ninth) at 1:05.84
  • Hentges followed with a time of 1:08.22 for 15th, and Kenna Remily finished at 1:14.15 for 20th

FINALS

  • Northern State’s 200-yard medley relay team consisting of Finch, Moore, Wanshura and Rogers secured silver at 1:50.06, while Vraniak, Beavers, Gordillo and Hentges took eighth at 1:56.59
  • Finch tallied another second-place finish in the finals, this time in the 50-yard freestyle, recording a 24.89-second swim
  • Moore (25.33 seconds) and Rogers (25.53 seconds) rounded out the NSU scorers in 10th and 13th place, respectively
  • In the 200-yard backstroke, Rogers took fifth at 2:15.71, Finch finished in 10th with a time of 2:18.75, and Grund recorded a 13th-place finish at 2:30.51
  • Wanschura swam a 2:19.32 in the 200-yard individual medley for sixth, while Loest (2:20.30) took ninth, and Vraniak rounded out the scoring swims in 16th at 2:28.68
  • Two Wolves finished back-to-back in the 100-yard butterfly in Moore (seventh) and Gordillo (eighth) with times of 1:01.89 and 1:04.22, respectively
  • To finish out the first day, Northern State’s 800-yard freestyle relay team made up of Moore, Hentges, Loest and Gordillo finished the event with a time of 8:28.74 to take seventh place

As a team, the Wolves notched a pair of second-place finishes and three fourth-place finishes in the finals while earning a first- and a third-place finish in the prelims earlier today.

PRELIMS

  • Freshman Ella Wanschura earned Northern State a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:07.89, NSU’s first of the meet
  • Joining Wanschura in the event was Emma Beavers (1:09.84) for seventh and Marie Loest (1:11.59) for 10th
  • In the 100-yard backstroke, Mazie Finch (1:01.13) and Sydney Rogers took third and sixth, respectively
  • Sidney Masgras (28.98 seconds) and Lorelai Grund (29.00 seconds) finished back-to-back in the 50-yard butterfly for fourth and fifth
  • The Wolves had two top-10 finishes in the 200-yard butterfly featuring Emma Moore and Laila Gordillo
  • Moore took fifth at 2:26.03, Gordillo placed 10th at 2:40.69, and Kenna Remily took 13th at 2:52.42
  • Riley Vraniak swam a time of 5:31.95 in the 400-yard individual medley for 11th
  • To round the prelims, Gordillo (2:05.21), Grund (2:06.14) and Ilyanna Haigler (2:13.31) took 12th, 15th and 23rd, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle

FINALS

  • Finch tallied one of NSU’s second-place finishes in the finals, courtesy of a 1:00.28 swim in the 100-yard backstroke, while teammate Rogers followed behind in fifth at 1:01.79
  • Northern’s other silver finish came by way of a relay consisting of Moore, Gordillo, Rogers and Finch, who recorded a 1:40.21 swim in the 200-yard freestyle relay
  • Wanschura snagged another top-five finish, this time in fifth at 1:08.26 in the 100-yard breaststroke
  • Joining Wanschura in the top 10 were Beavers (1:10.13) in seventh and Loest (1:10.52) in ninth
  • The Wolves had two relay teams in the finals for the 400-yard medley relay, with Wanschura, Rogers, Moore and Finch taking fourth at 4:06.08, and Vraniak, Beavers, Grund and Masgras taking ninth at 4:17.47
  • In the 200-yard butterfly, Moore took fourth with a time of 2:26.40, with teammates Gordillo (ninth) and Remily (13th) finishing at 2:34.20 and 2:49.36, respectively
  • Vraniak was NSU’s sole competitor in the 400-yard individual medley, taking ninth at 5:14.64
  • To finish out the second day of the meet, Gordillo (2:03.52) and Grund (2:08.14) took 13th and 16th in the 200-yard freestyle

  • Laila Gordillo (55.52 seconds) earned ninth in the same event, followed by Sydney Rogers (55.78 seconds) in 11th and Lorelai Grund (57.50 seconds) in 19th
  • In the 500-yard freestyle, Moore notched NSU’s fastest time at 5:32.40 for eighth, while Grund finished at 5:51.23 for 16th and Kenna Remily swam a 6:25.27 for 24th

FINALS

  • After her stellar performance in the preliminary round, Flockhart followed it up with a score of 402.65 in the one-meter dive, earning yet another first-place finish
  • Moore and Finch took second and third in the 100-yard freestyle, recording a 54.50-second finish and a 55.13-second finish, respectively
  • In the same event, Gordillo (55.36 seconds) and Rogers (55.52 seconds) took ninth and 10th, while Grund (57.46 seconds) and Maya Hentges (58.32 seconds) placed 19th and 21st
  • Wanschura tallied her third top-five finish in the 200-yard breaststroke as she secured a 2:32.64 finish for fourth, followed by Loest in fifth at 2:34.41
  • Beavers took eighth with a time of 2:36.84, and Vraniak rounded out NSU’s swimmers in the event with a 2:51.52 finish for 16th
  • Five Wolves placed in the top 20 in the 100-yard individual medley, with Wanschura (1:03.17) taking fifth, Loest (1:03.81) placing sixth, Beavers (1:06.27) earning 14th, Vraniak (1:05.28) taking 17th and Masgras recording a 1:07.77 swim for 20th
  • NSU’s 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Loest, Hentges, Grund and Ilyanna Haigler took eighth with a time of 3:55.32
  • In the women’s 500-yard freestyle, Moore led the charge in eighth at 5:37.55, followed by Grund in 15th at 5:41.58 and Remily in 23rd at 6:16.66
  • In the time trials, Rogers (1:05.43) and Grund (1:06.12) placed first and second in the 100-yard IM time trial, while Vraniak (28.18 seconds) and Masgras (28.79 seconds) finished with gold and silver in the 50-yard butterfly time trial
