Congressman Johnson address government shutdown

MITCHELL, S.D.(DRGNews)- The United States government is at a virtual stand-still because Republican and Democrat party leaders in the Senate can’t reach a compromise on a continuing resolution to keep funding operations.

South Dakota U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson says it’s frustrating.

Johnson says despite the shutdown, he’s still working behind the scenes.

One bill Johnson is hoping to gain support for is his bill to eliminate government shutdowns– entirely.

Until the shutdown ends, Johnson says he’s not letting himself get paid.

One month into the shutdown, many federal employees are still showing up to do their jobs even though they’re not getting their paychecks. However, the financial strain is beginning to take a toll as employees are calling in sick so they can work shifts at second jobs as a way to pay bills that keep coming, even if their regular paychecks are not.
