A Life Remembered…….Gleva Louise was born to George and Margaret (Lutter) Nielsen on July 23, 1934, at rural Tulare, SD. She attended grade school for 8 years at Sunbeam Country School in rural Hand County, SD, and graduated. She then attended Miller High School in Miller, SD, and graduated in 1952. She married Raymond Jenner on January 25, 1952, while a senior in high school. They had seven children: Sheryl, Deborah, Kenneth, Douglas, Allen, Diane, and Barbara. Gleva worked for neighbors and friends cleaning, painting, ironing, and doing several other things, but mostly loving and caring for her children. When her kids were older, she started working at James Valley Nursing Home in Redfield, SD, as head housekeeper, working several years. She married Donald Schlotter on November 24, 1972, at the Redfield Wesleyan Church in Redfield. He convinced her to work at Redfield State Hospital and School for 23 years, then retiring in 1996. Don and Gleva did an amazing job of raising her kids and Don’s son, Wade. Gleva had many friends, neighbors, and relatives, which she enjoyed very much. She lived her life for her kids, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and loved them so much. Her family and friends meant the world to her.
She is survived by her children: Deborah Moser, Kenneth (Bette) Jenner, Allen Jenner, Diane Merchant, and Barbara (Steve) Geranen. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren, and son-in-law Kevin Schurch.
Gleva is preceded in death by her loving husband of 37 years, Donald, parents George and Margaret Nielsen, daughter Sheryl Schurch, son Douglas Jenner, daughter-in-law Jody Jenner, sons-in-law Keith Moser and Larry Merchant, five sisters: Marilyn Perschbacher, Elaine Spicer, Donna Campbell, Alice Engelman, and Doris Landen, one brother Marvin Nielsen, and great-great grandson Lucas Smith.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal. She was always ready to lend her heart and hands to those in need. Gleva’s children will always remember a loving and caring mother who always put them first.
