SIOUX FALLS, S.D. & WASHINGTON, D.C.(KELO)- He says it’s not politics…it’s personal.

Long-time South Dakota grocer RF Buche of Buche Foods says the impending loss of November SNAP nutrition benefits because of the government shutdown could have a tragic outcome.

With the government shutdown threatening SNAP nutrition benefits for November, Buche is planning to do what he can to help SNAP recipients through a non-profit formed by his company.

Buche operates 24 grocery stores in the state…all on or near reservations.

75-thousand South Dakotans are facing a very lean November due to the government shutdown.

They’ll lose SNAP nutrition benefits unless it’s resolved.

That’s one of  the main problems troubling Senate Majority Leader John Thune as he appeared on Fox News with Martha Maccallum.

If SNAP Benefits are suspended for November, government officials say recipients won’t be reimbursed.

On Wednesday, South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has joined a coalition of 19 Attorneys General in urging U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to provide stopgap funding for the 42 million Americans who benefit from the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

“South Dakotans who rely on SNAP are being adversely impacted by this federal government shutdown,” said Attorney General Jackley. “It is time to approve a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government and ensure that SNAP recipients don’t go hungry.”

The Attorneys General in their letter to Sen. Schumer said a continued government shutdown means SNAP benefits will not be issued starting on Nov. 1. The coalition stated that stopgap funding is needed to fund the program.
