PIERRE, S.D.(KELO)- South Dakota legislators will have their hands full considering property tax relief measures during their next session.
A study committee approved more than two dozen proposals for legislative action.
Among them – measures to freeze property taxes for seniors and veterans.
Representative Scott Odenbach also pushed for a limit on government spending, and a return to a former legislative pledge on lottery proceeds.
Home values statewide have increased more than 40 percent since 2019, leading to higher property taxes based on the increased value.
The Legislative session begins January 13th.
