ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Wednesday, Executive Director of the Aberdeen Downtown Association, Alexa Sheldon wrote a letter announcing that she will not renew her contract to continue as executive director.
The letter reads as follow:
“After much reflection, I am writing to share that I will not be renewing my contract as Executive Director of the Aberdeen Downtown Association for 2026. This decision comes after three deeply rewarding years of community work, growth, and collaboration.
The timing of this transaction has been thoughfully planned to align with a natural break in our event season following the conclusion of the 2025 holiday events. This will allow me the opportunity to assist with onboarding and training new leadership to ensure a smooth and successful handoff. Supporting the next chapter of this organization and setting future leadership up for success is very important to me.
I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together, from beautification projects and new community events to stronger partnerships with the City and greater regional recognition for our downtown, we’ve built momentum through hard work and genuine partnerships. My heartfelt appreciation goes to our dedicated staff and Board of Directors, whose creativity, perseverance, and commitment have driven so much meaningful progress. I strongly encourage current and aspiring leaders in our community to get involved with this amazing group of young people making change.”
Beyond our own team, I am equally grateful for the many small business owners, nonprofits, and volunteers who contribute daily to the strength and spirit of our downtown. I also want to extend sincere appreciation with our partners at the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, Aberdeen Convention and Visitors Bureau, Aberdeen Development Corporation, and the City of Aberdeen. It has been a privilege to collaborate with so many passionate people who share a vision of vibrant, connected community.
With exciting new projects underway and ready to be carried forward by the new leader in this role, this is an inspiring moment for our organization. Our downtown is truly special, and I look forward to seeing its continued growth and success.”
A new search has begun to find her replacement.
