Getting ready for America250 celebration

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The annual conference of the Association of South Dakota Museums are in Aberdeen for this year’s convention.  Among the topics discussed is the celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

Assistant Director for the South Dakota State Historical Society, David Grabitske describes it as one of the biggest parties coming next year.

Grabitske started by addressing some of the events coming up on the national scene.  He talks about the National Potluck coming up on July 5th in Utah.

Grabitske talks about the reading of the Declaration of Independence that is scheduled for July 8th.

Grabitske talks about what’s South Dakota is planning.  He talked about the Walk250 event.

Grabitske discuss the America250 celebration that began at this year’s state fair.

Grabitske talks about time capsules that some cities will be doing in 2026.

Locally, Dacotah Prairie Museum Director Patricia Kendall talks about plans the City of Aberdeen are doing.  She talked about the time capsule that they will unveil that is at Melgaard Park that dates back to 1976.

Kendall talks about a possible parade that will happen on the 4th of July(falls on a Saturday) that the city might be planning.

Kendall is pushing to have history talks throughout the year 2026.
