MITCHELL, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Thursday night, Congressman Dusty Johnson did a Tele-Town Hall updating the citizens about what’s happening out in Washington. One of the main focus is on the current Government Shutdown. One of the issue Democrats are looking to address is the issue of health care and extending the subsidies for the Affordable Care Act. Republicans express concern this will lead to coverage to illegal immigrants.
Johnson discussed two ways they are getting coverage. Both he’s opposed to. One is by not checking the citizenship of those who apply.
The other way is by how states are funding for Medicaid.
Johnson was asked whether Congress can work with pharmaceutical companies to help lower cost.
In order for the Government to reopen, the U.S. Senate will need 60 votes for approval. Johnson acknowledge that can be frustrating but firmly believes that should be the standard and not a simple majority.
Johnson did address other issues including looking into getting data centers into South Dakota. He talks about connecting this with AI technology.
Johnson note that they will have to follow boundaries in order for those projects to get started.
Johnson also addressed the 20 billion dollar bailout President Trump’s administration are doing with Argentina.
Johnson also discussed how the fringes of both the Republican & Democratic party are dragging down their respective parties.
Government shutdown will continue through the weekend.
