Doeden and his family were at a Northern State University football game when a woman approached him saying, “we got Charlie Kirk, you’re next.”
Police were called to the scene and arrested the woman, who’s facing a Simple Assault charge.
Doeden said, “It is not going to change how or where I campaign. We will certainly be taking some precautions, adding some security and a few other things. I will do everything to protect my family and my campaign staffers. We are going full forward ahead, more aggressive, more resolve. I am working harder today because of what happened last weekend, and I am not quitting.”
Doeden told the crowd about his upbringing, his strong business background, and how it’s time for South Dakota government to be run by a CEO-type, and not a career politician.
Other announced Republican candidates in the race for governor include U.S. Congressman Dusty Johnson and South Dakota House Speaker Jon Hansen.
The Republican Primary will be held on June 2, 2026.
