Kathleen Jean Carson was born on June 3, 1949, in Britton, SD, to Clayton and Lucille (Hanson) Carson. She attended school most of her years in Langford, SD, and spent her junior and senior years of high school in Aberdeen, SD. She briefly attended college at Northern State University in Aberdeen. She married Keith Jandahl in 1967, and they had two children before divorcing.

Kathy worked for various companies in South Dakota and Minnesota, and found her love of travel while working in the airline industry, where she spent 17 years until her retirement in 2005. She later moved to Little Chute.

Kathy’s five grandchildren were her greatest treasures. She relished watching them play sports and attending their school plays and concerts, and she bragged every chance she had about their accomplishments throughout their lives. Grandma Kathy always made sure her grandchildren knew she loved them dearly.

As a mother, Kathy cherished her children, Brian and Stacy. Her pride in them overflowed, and her love and appreciation for them grew ever deeper as the years went on.

An always-positive, can-do attitude was a hallmark of Kathy’s, and it served her well while facing the challenges that come with multiple sclerosis, which she confronted as a young woman and managed with grace throughout her life.

Kathy also had a knack for connecting with people and quickly made friends. Chatting with whomever she met came naturally to her, and she was sincere in those relationships.

Loved ones cherishing memories of Kathy are her children Brian (Ann) Jandahl of Sioux Falls, SD, and Stacy (Jamie) Mara of Little Chute, WI; grandchildren Kelsie (Zach) Lukes, Sydney (Joey) Olson, Carson Mara, Connor Mara and Baylee (Tucker) Kraft; great-grandchildren Remedy, Brewer, Bennett and Charlotte; brother John (Diana) Carson; sister-in-law Joey Carson; brother-in-law Mike Shannon; nieces Katie (Justin) Hammer and Claire (Brian) Colgan; her Aunt Barbie (Art) Speck; and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her brother, Keith Carson, and sister, Judy Shannon.
