Aberdeen City Council approve first reading for 2026 city budget

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The Aberdeen City Council on Monday night discussed the first reading on an ordinance addressing the 2026 city budget.

Aberdeen Mayor Travis Schaunaman note that the ordinance didn’t address the Capital Improvement Plan which included funding for the two-way Main Street.

Aberdeen Finance Officer Jordan McQuillen talks about the only adjustment that was made to it since September 2nd when it was introduced.

Also speaking tonight were members from Fifth Circuit CASA South Dakota based in Aberdeen.  Lawyer and Chair for the Board of Directors Adam Altman wanted to thanks the council for their support.

The Aberdeen City Council approved the first reading on an 8-0 vote.  Second reading and final approval is scheduled for Monday, September, 22nd.  The budget is estimated to be around 178 million dollars.

The council also approve a resolution approving the allocation of the Promotional Fund at about 1.4 million dollars.
