Watertown saw some street flooding last night from heavy rain. Water was covering Interstate 29 at mile marker 183.
Watertown Fire Rescue was called out just after 11 o’clock Thursday night on a report of a person trapped in a sinking vehicle a mile north of Exit 181 on Interstate 29.
While they were on their way there, they learned the occupant of the vehicle safely got out and swam to a bystander’s vehicle.
The maroon-colored hatchback had left the Interstate after encountering some 10 inches of water on the roadway that flooded both lanes near mile marker 182.
When emergency crews arrived, the car was barely visible, with only the rear bumper above water.
The occupant of the car that swam to safety was checked out on the scene by paramedics, but did not require any further medical attention.
Due to flooding, Interstate 29 was shut down between Exit 181 and Exit 185.
Milbank had one inch hail.
