SDPB looks toward the future following cuts made in Washington

VERMILLION, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Earlier this month, the U.S. Congress passed a rescission package that included among other things cuts made to Corporation for Public Broadcasting that impacted NPR & PBS.

On Thursday, Executive Director Julie Overgaard looked toward the future.  SDPB is expected to lose over 2.1 million dollars in funding from CPB.

Overgaard announced projected cuts being done due to the loss in funding.

Overgaard express concerns about the loss of Corporation of Public Broadcasting.

Overgaard talks about the role SDPB does for the state.

Overgaard talks about the cost per citizens in the state and the impact the station provides.

Overgaard discuss the next step forward which could include potentially asking for more funding from the South Dakota Legislature.

Overgaard also believes that SDPB may need to reinvent themselves going forward.

Layoffs are expected to go into effect on October 31st.
