Lilas, daughter of Reinhold and Florence (Galster) Krein, was born October 15, 1934, in Leola, SD. This is where she grew up, graduating from Leola High School with the class of 1953.
Lilas was united in marriage to Duane Skoglund in July of 1953 at Webster, SD. Lilas and Duane lived in Milwaukee, Leola, and Claremont prior to settling on the farm located east of Hecla in 1970, where she was a homemaker and farm wife. She raised chickens and flocks of sheep. She was extremely proud of her Suffolk Cross Sheep.
Lilas and Duane moved to Aberdeen in November of 2012. Duane passed away on February 16, 2015.
Lilas held many jobs off the farm, such as owning a restaurant, office manager, grocery store, school bus driver, and working at the senior center.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, the United Methodist Church, and the choir in Hecla, SD.
Lilas had several hobbies: ceramics, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, toll painting, and wood refinishing. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Lilas’s life are her four sons: Allen (Dawn) Skoglund of Greeley, CO; Lynn (Debbie) Skoglund of Greely, CO; Gene (Judy) Skoglund of Hecla, SD; and Kelly (Deborah McConnell) Skoglund of Alcester, SD; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Duane, her parents, and two brothers.
