Jeff Rose, 63

Jeff Francis Rose, 63, of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, June 15th, 2025, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 18th, at 1:00pm with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00pm at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Pastor Martin Avery will officiate. Burial will commence immediately following at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Celebration of Life to follow at Chrystal’s in Redfield.

Jeffery was born July 17th, 1961, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield to Francis and Mavis (Steiner) Rose. He attended Redfield Public School, graduating in 1979. He then attended Northern State University. During Jeff’s lifetime of various jobs, he started his employment as a paperboy. In later years, he worked at Harry’s Station, Odland Construction, and finished his career at SDDC with 30+ years.

Jeff married Pam Larsen in Redfield in 1982 and they had two children, Jessica and Ian. On July 22nd, 2000, he married Nancy Batteen in Rapid City, SD, at the Chapel in the Hills. With this union, three more children were added to his family, Heather, Christy, and Robb.

Besides spending time with his family (especially the grandkids) and friends, Jeff enjoyed art, playing baseball, golf, league softball, cribbage, bowling, and throwing horseshoes. Jeff enjoyed lake time and had a deep love for music. He and Nancy, along with their closest friends, would annually attend Blues and Jazz Fest in Sioux Falls, SD. Jeff loved his “patio time” in the summer around the pool listening to music. Anyone who knows Jeff, knows he LOVES watching all sports. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and college sports. He enjoyed any opportunity to be in the sun, which included tropical vacations to Jamaica, Los Cabos, Mazatlán, and Cancun.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Rose of Redfield; children: Jessica (Pat Lenertz) Rose of Moorhead, MN, and Ian (Karen) Rose of Groton, SD; Heather (Adam) Spotanske of Harrisburg, SD, Christy (Ben) Chittenden of Sioux Falls, SD, and Robb Batteen of Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren: Rider Avery; Rylie, Graham, Nolan, Beckett, Ava, Keller and Willow Rose; Kelsie Laverty, Peyton and Piper Moore; Mariah and Carter Spotanske; and Kaitlyn Batteen; and two great-grandchildren, Cederick and Lincoln Laverty.

His surviving siblings include: Gerri (Bob) Schutte and Wayne (Deb) Rose, all of Redfield; and brother-in-law, Phillip Rogers of Stratton, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis & Mavis Rose, sister, Maxine Rogers, brothers, Lonnie and Roger Rose, an infant sister, brother-in-law, Chuck Koppinger, and grandchild, Logan Moore.
