Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State University head women’s basketball coach, Paula Krueger announced today the addition of Edgar Chavira to her 2025-26 staff. Chavira joins the Wolves as an assistant coach, following a 2-year stint at Texas Woman’s University.
“We are excited to add Edgar to our staff,” noted Krueger. “He was a graduate assistant at Texas Woman’s University, a high-level Division II program, and brings with him a wealth of experience in key areas that are vital to our success. From the first time we spoke on the phone, he had my attention. Edgar brings energy, a commitment to winning, and will make an immediate impact with his tireless work ethic.”
“I am incredibly excited and honored to join Coach Krueger and Coach Bourk at Northern State University.” Said Chavira. “My past two years at Texas Woman’s University have been instrumental in shaping me, both personally and professionally, equipping me with the skills to lead athletes, build strong communities, and contribute meaningfully to a team.”
“TWU has prepared me well for this next step, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to serve as an assistant coach at Northern State University. I can’t wait to get started in Wolves Country! Go Wolves!!”
As the graduate assistant at TWU from 2023 to 2025, Chavira oversaw a variety of areas including facility scheduling, team travel, equipment, graphics work, and the program’s team managers. In addition, he assisted with player development, recruiting, film breakdown, and scouting reports. Texas Woman’s went 67-7 in his two seasons on staff, reaching the post season in both 2023-24 and 2024-25. TWU finished as the National Runner-up in 2024, and advanced to the NCAA Regional Championship in 2025. The Pioneers won back-to-back Lone Star Conference Championships, as Chavira coached four all-conference performers, the LSC Player of the Year, five all-region selections, the South Central Region MVP, and a WBCA All-American.
Krueger added, “he has a strong eye for detail and a creative skill set in graphics and social media that will elevate our program’s brand. His film work is sharp and efficient, helping us break down the game at a high level for both individual development and team growth. Perhaps most importantly, he’s eager to learn and grow in all areas of the profession; he’s the kind of coach that makes those around him better.”
He opened his collegiate career as a student manager at Eastern New Mexico University, assisting with skill development, opponent scouting, equipment, and team academics. Chavira has worked basketball camps at both Eastern New Mexico and Texas Woman’s.
Chavira holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration – Personal Finance from Eastern New Mexico and master’s degree in Business Administration from Texas Woman’s.
