Recap of D23 Leglislative Forum held in Miller Saturday

MILLER, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The American Legion in Miller, Saturday held a legislative forum involving legislators representing District 23.  They are Senator Mark Lapka of Ipswich, Representatives Scott Moore of Ipswich & Spencer Gosch of Glenham.

Senator Mark Lapka:

Senator Lapka is a member of the Prison Project Reset Task Force and provided updates with that committee.

Lapka told the audience the funding set in place for the future men’s prison.

Lapka talks about adjustment the committee have been making.

Lapka talks about changes that has been made on the designing plans for the prison.

Final meeting of the task force is scheduled for July 8th.

Lapka is also Vice-Chair of the Senate Appropriation Committee.  He break down hos money is generated in the state.

Lapka talks about the DOGE being implemented on the federal level that can impact the state.

Representative Spencer Gosch:

Representativve Gosch admit he hasn’t kept up closely on the Prison task force but also believe that society could have a positive impact on the people in their respective cities.

Gosch is a supporter of term limits but did express one concern on how that impact on the Appropriation Committees.

Gosch address property taxes and how they impact education in rural communities.

Gosch talks about how this has benefited the larger communities.

Gosch also talks funding needed to address county roads in smaller counties.

Representative Scott Moore:

Representative Scott Moore talks about wanting this prison task force being done prior to this year’s legislative session.

Moore is also on the Appropriation Committe on the House side.

Moore also address the issue of local control and when govenment should address things overriding that.

Moore also discussed funding needed for county roads especially in rural counties.

Moore thanked everyone for attending and appreciated help from other legislators in different districts.

District 23 covers Potter, Walworth, Edmunds, McPherson, Hand, Faulk, Campbell, and parts of Brown Counties.
