YANKTON, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – In midweek twinbill down in Yankton, the Aberdeen Smittys would drop a pair of contests against the Yankton Post 12 squad, falling in game one, 9-4 and dropping a 7-4 decision in game two.

In the first game of two, the Post 12 squad struck early & were steady across all seven innings, putting up at least one run in six of the seven frames. They led 1-0 after the first, but Aberdeen would tie things up in the top of the second on an errant throw by the Yankton first baseman, plating Karson Borge. Unfortunately for the Smittys, Yankton got the run back and then some in the bottom of the second, taking a 4-1 lead. Post 12 added single tallies in the fourth & fifth innings, before adding three more in the bottom of the seventh.

Trailing 9-1 going into the last of the seventh, Aberdeen tried to chip away at the eight run deficit, but it was too little, too late; ultimately falling 9-4. Post 12 out-hit the Smittys 11-6 and Bennett Eisenbeisz took the loss on the hill, going four innings, surrendering eight hits, five earned runs, he also struck out three in the shortcoming. Offensively, Ridley Waldo, Joran Foss & Jehiel Aviles each had a run batted in.

In game two, in the top of the second inning (after a scoreless first by both squads) after a 10-pitch battle at the dish & a single by Jehiel Aviles, he would steal second and an errant throw by the catcher would plate Karson Borge from third base. Aviles would score from third on the next at bat as Grant Beyer would hit a sac fly.

Aberdeen would add two more in the top of the third to take a 4-0 lead, but that lead wouldn’t stand up. Yankton cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame and then added three in the fourth to take 5-4 advantage and they would not relinquish that lead. Joran Foss took the loss on the hill; he started and went three innings and surrendered four hits and scattered five runs, only two of them earned and he struck out three. Both teams struggled in the field, each with three errors. Jaxon Ladner was 1-4 with a two RBI single in the third inning.

The Smittys have a quick turnaround, they’ll battle Harrisburg Gold on Thursday for another doubleheader; first pitch is slated for 3p for game one & game two to follow.
