PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The 2026 general election is gearing up already well over a year ahead of election day. Most of the talk has surrounded the election for governor, but a number of constitutional offices are also up for grabs. One of those being a seat on the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission. One name being circulated through the conservative blogging site Dakota War College is District 24 Senator Jim Mehlhaff. Mehlhaff says he’s not in, but he’s not out right now either.
Current P-U-C Commissioner Gary Hansen has said he is not seeking reelection to the P-U-C opening the door for Mehlhaff or someone else to seek a place on the three-member Commission.
