PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- There is no change in the results of the Pierre City Commission election on June 3rd. A recount, requested by third place finisher Kevin Larsen was held at the Hughes County Courthouse Wednesday morning.
Hughes County Finance Officer Thomas Oliva started the recount with an explanation of the process to the recount board consisting of Frank Marnell, Tony Mangan and Sam Handscheke. After about two hours, City of Pierre Finance Officer Lacy Walz read off the recount margins.
Oliva says he’s pleased the election was conducted accurately the first time.
Handscheke says the recount board clearly saw the intent of voters on the ballots they examined.
The recount will require a second canvass that will take place at the Pierre City Commission’s meeting next week.
